According to a CBRI test report, the Shankar Balram septic Tank Latrine was the absolute finest solution available until 1995, and was used by a vast number of individuals in Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh and other part of India. The Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi directed the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) in Roorkee to investigate the design and compare it to other alternatives, and they found it appropriate for all ground conditions. However, several aspects of the design have not been considered, and as a result, the design has to be improved. The tests on effluent samples were carried out at the University of Roorkee under the supervision of Dr Arvind Kumar, Professor of Civil Engineering, and the results are given. The Readymade Septic Tank, also known as a Precast Septic Tank, is made up of two precast RCC Pipe chambers with varying diameters and lengths. One of the precast compartments has a longer length, but its diameter is determined by the number of users planned. It acts as a major storage tank. The length and diameter of the other prefabricated chamber may be half or the same, depending on the number of people. It serves as a secondary chamber.
